Sharp LC-46D92U

When you watch one of your favorite movies on this LCD flat screen you will be impressed with the black levels - which give it that ‘cinema' quality. When using a normal DVD player you might notice that there is some slight noise and mapping in the shadows and neutral colored background.

However, those with an HD or Blu Ray DVD player shouldn't have any problems like this. They will be surprised by the brilliant picture that they will receive. Although we have to admit that it may be a little too brilliant. As with most LCD's the color always seems to really stick out and make things look ten times more colorful. But it isn't something a little adjusting can't fix.

The LC-46D92U is built with the anti-glare technology that many of us wish was installed in every television and it works perfectly. Even the backlighting - which can be adjusted to match the room light conditions - does a great job. The best thing you can do that will help you to get the best use out of the backlighting feature is to turn off the OPC setting.
One of the best features that has been added is the ‘fast motion advanced' setting. This increases the response time for any fast moving images on the screen.

We are happy to see that this LCD comes with a bottom speaker that can detach. It is great to have if you don't own a sound system - but can easily come off when you finally do get one.

To buy a good sized 46" LCD LC-46D92U is going to cost you around $3000. We don't see any reason why someone - who is looking for a quality picture wouldn't spend that kind of money. We do recommend that those who don't have an HD or Blu Ray DVD may want to buy one for this television in order to make the experience more enjoyable.

Samsung LE52F96BD

The Samsung LE52F96BD has its good points and its bad points. The thing that we love about it is the LED SmartLighting backlight that was built into it. Samsung has created blacks on a flat screen television and brought it to a whole new level.

The fact that there is no light output showing up from behind the picture you are watching is something that we are all going to love. Most of us are used to seeing the bright light show up on the screen every time the picture on the screen fades out and not having to worry about it anymore is an amazing experience.

With such a great feature you can be sure that some things have been sacrificed. Because the many pixels on the screen outnumber the dimming zones, black level fluctuation and flare will take its place. Some people will not be bothered with this and will probably never notice. However those who are used to a perfectly clear picture and are paying out big money for the LE52F96BD may not be too happy.

While some people choose not to buy the Samsung LE52F96BD because of the color shifts and the lack of image depth that is caused by the SmartLighting we believe that it delivers us a great quality of picture full of detail, blur-free motion, connectivity, picture control, and even great sound quality. This is definitely one of the better TV's to spend your hard earned money on.

Philips Picture Perfect 32PFL9632

Earlier this year Philips opened up about their plans of putting their new Perfect Pixel technology to use in a brand new television. We have all been waiting patiently and now the wait is over. The brand new 32 inch LCD screen may not be big - but who says that bigger is better. In this case we would have to agree that size does not matter - but rather picture quality.

The new technology that they have used for the new 32PFL9632 has been called the Perfect Pixel Engine (PPE) - which is used for enhancing the fine detail levels of the television. While they have come out with other televisions with this sort of technology we have to admit that this is far better work than we have seen in the past (hence the new name). One of the main differences is the new HD Natural Motion circuit, which applies large amounts of processing power to make the picture on the screen look more fluid.

HD Natural Motion has an element that converts 24fps signals to 48Hz. This opens up the potential for them to be shown with much less video noise than if a standard 50Hz or 60Hz frame rate was being used. Another new feature that you can expect from the PPE is a 14-bit color processing, which is included to create a more natural and wider color palette, and 100Hz which is designed to lower LCD's normal problems retaining resolution over moving objects.
Besides expecting to see the crystal clear picture (thanks to the use of Philip's LCD technology) you can also expect to see the great Ambilight at work. Ambilight is the process where pools of colored light, can 'spill' from the sides of the TV. Philip's is actually an improved version of Ambilight - which uses LED instead of fluorescent lighting. This helps all of us because it lowers the amount of power it consumes and increases the effect of the ambient light.

All of this technology gives you a much clearer picture with which to enjoy your favorite action flick. The objects on the screen seem to move perfectly and with great clarity that you won't have any problems seeing anything. But even with all of this great technology we were afraid that it would have the same problem that most LCD TV's have and that is response time.

Most have an inherent response time - making it frustrating to some users. However, the 32PFL9632D seems to be the first LCD television to have overcome this problem. The only thing that hasn't improved greatly is the audio - but when you can see things twice as better than before the last thing you are thinking about is how great it's going to sound.

Investing in this new 32 inch flat LCD television is going to cost you about $1500. With all the features that have been put into this to make it such a high quality TV we are happy to see that it isn't much more than that.
