Mitsubishi 73” WD-73827

Having a television that can do absolutely everything you would ever want is every TV owners dream and Mitsubishi may have the answer to all of your prayers.

The WD-73827 is 73" of pure enjoyment. Not only is this television huge (making it perfect for watching, well, ...anything) - but it is built with DLP HDTV and has 160GB of storage giving you enough room to record all of your favorite television shows on the built in DVR recorder. Okay, so it may not come with everything (like a DVD player) - but a DVR is good enough for us.

The television is built with NTSC and ATSC tuners - which allow you watch one program while recording another one. As we stated before the DVR has 160GB of storage that allows you to record around 16 hours of high definition programs and more than that if they are standard. It also gives you the ability to pause the live TV that you are watching.

The WD-73827 supports a resolution of 1,920x1,080 and has the ability to convert any signal to 1080p. When it comes to picture quality you can bet that you are getting 73" of pure goodness. Every detail can be seen whether it be in the day or night time. The black levels are set to allow you to see even the darkest of scenes. Plus you can watch in six different picture formats.

A large screen and great picture quality isn't everything, if you don't have the right speakers to go with it yoy may feel disappointed. Unfortunately the speakers on this Mitsubishi television are less then perfect. The two 1 ½ inch two way speakers only give out 20 watts. It's a bit disappointing - but the connections that can be hooked up to the television may just make up for that. There are the S-video and composite video inputs, three video component video inputs, two HDMI with DVI stereo inputs, and a CableCard slot.

The price of the WD-73827 is around $4950, which in our opinion is a bit steep for having such poor stereo quality. Of course you can always fix that problem by buying a good set of speakers that will give you surround sound to go with your movie. The television does have good picture quality and a decent amount of features to make this television worth your while.

Samsung 72” HL-T7288W

The HL-T7288W is one of Samsung's more expensive rear-projection televisions. At 72" the television is larger than your average television on the market - which is one of the many reasons why it so expensive and one of the higher end models on the market.

The television is compatible with HDTV - which helps to bring everything you watch and look at to life. All of the images are sharper and clearer than anything you have ever seen, making it hard for you to take your eyes off the screen.

Now you can watch your favorite football team and feel like you are actually there. The quality of the picture can be viewed in standard - but it isn't as sharp. However, if you are going to spend large amounts of money on the television then you should definitely invest in HDTV to make it worth your while.

The price of the HL-T7288W ranges from $3,300 - $4,500. As we stated before it is a bit steep - but the fact that you are getting a 72" screen that can display HD with the best picture quality may make up for that.

Pioneer 42 Kuro PDP-4280HD

Pioneer There isn't too much to say on Pioneer's 42" Kuro PDP-4280 HDTV. We previously reviewed the 50" PDP-5080 HDTV - which is similar. However, there are some things that differ between the two sets.

One of the biggest problems that we found in the PDP-5080 was the overly effective color accuracy (which made things look unreal at times). Pioneer has taken care of this problem with this television - which supports 1,024x768 pixel resolution) - and does an excellent job of bringing out each of the colors at the perfect color temperature. Having color accuracy at this quality helps make viewing more enjoyable for us.

With the improvement of color accuracy we were almost afraid to see if the black levels had gone down and ruined our theater experience. However, Pioneer has carried over the same high black levels with the same sharpness in the shadowy scenes that we were able to enjoy from the 5080.

The 4280 may not have as many inputs that overflowed from the 5080 - but it still comes with some of the important ones including - four 1.3 HDMI, PC, USB, 2x component, VGA, 3x composite, and 1x s-video. The 4280 boasts some of the best features that an HDTV can offer. Our favorite feature is automatic lip syncing.

The price of Pioneer's Kuro PDP-4280 ranges from $1,700 - $2,700. This is a great price for getting some of the best features along with a high quality picture.
