TiVo is said to be in the final stages of producing a digital video recorder intended to become a central hub for the entire home, Tom Rogers, boss of TiVo has confirmed that release is imminent for the new device. He says that regular TiVo units are limiting in that they can only record or provide content to a single TV set at a time.

The TiVo's Wi-Fi adapter does help somewhat, by allowing the system to be remotely controlled. However Rogers says that TiVo will produce a new unit that will be capable of providing what the company refer to as  "whole-home" availability, but the company declined to be more specific.

If this system is practical and usable it would give TiVo a considerable advantage over other DVR producers, who are currently limited to just one TV, this would clearly put this prospective new TiVo unit in a commanding position over its rivals.

TiVo customers who also have broadband capabilities will be able to view podcasts as well as other Internet based video functions all via this new TiVo unit, there will also be the possibility of accessing  Unbox movies from provider, Amazon, not to mention the wealth of items on YouTube.
