It is now possible to see enhanced images from a DVD movie with the help of the new Sony DVP-NS708H, which the company is pushing, as an ‘upscaling' DVD player. The new Sony unit upscales DVDs that have standard definition, bringing them up to 1080p to give a far more detailed quality to the images. The current highest resolution for HD TV is 1920×1080, or 1080p with progressive scanning. This will give higher quality picture more like those viewed in a movie theatre, obviously the larger the screen the better the effect would be. The new unit will also have the same effect on your digital photo collection, or any other JPEG's you would like to view from a DVD or CD, or even direct from a digital, still or movie camera.
Upscaling can also enhance slightly poorer images such as those found in old traditional style photos or home movies that have been transferred from VHS to disc, giving them an enhanced digital appearance improving color and detail from old lower quality images. |
